PROJECTS

Here is a small cross section of some of the recent work we have completed.

Here is a small cross section of some of the work we have completed during the previous 12 months.

We carry out work on behalf of various Community Councils, Schools and commercial and residential customers.

Drainage Work

Following extensive work in this woodland over the last 12 months, new walkways, footpaths, bridges and steps have been added and developed for community enjoyment. Unfortunately there was an issue with water drainage and flooding (picture 1). This needed to be resolved to avoid undoing some of the excellent work carried out over the year. We set about digging a straighter trench with higher banks each side in order to improve water flow and to prevent flooding. Picture 5 shows the comparison between where we started and how it looked after we finished.

Picture 2 shows how it was and picture 8 shows the finished result.

Wild Meadow Maintenance

As part of the annual maintenance of this nature trail and other areas, the grass is cut and collected. Cutting a meadow helps maintain a diverse mix of flowers and grasses. Removing the cuttings encourages the wildflowers to come back year after year and it keeps the more vigorous species at bay! We also carry out the same work in other areas.

Bulb Planting

A current project we are working on is the preparation of flower beds to the approach of a local village. The area to be planted was of poor soil quality, and the first step was to spray and scrape the grassed area. We then set about bringing in and levelling 15 tons of fresh topsoil in preparation for the bulb planting a little later this year.

Park Maintenance

An ongoing part of our work is to continually ensure maintenance and repair tasks are carried out on the various parks we look after. This includes replacing broken or damaged parts like for like from manufacturers, painting or staining woodwork with the correct products, replacing broken or damaged wooden panels or parts as required.

Outdoor Furniture Installation

We are often requested to build and install outdoor furniture. Here are a few pictures of various items we have installed for Community Councils. These include bins,  picnic benches that we have collected, built and installed and also memorial benches.

The Tycroes Growing Together Project

As part of the Tycroes Growing Together Project, we prepared and planted up several wild flower beds with a mix of seed In order to encourage and support wildlife.

Another element of the Tycroes Growing Together Project was to plant up foraging hedgerows, fruit trees, to build raised bed planters for community planting, and also to clear and re-plant herb beds at Parc Fferws.

A key element to the Tycroes Growing Together Project was to improve access. As a result new footpaths were installed in the park area, steps were installed on the steeper banks within the woodland and footbridges were placed across the stream. Wild play areas were developed at both Heol Brown and Parc Fferws.

The final element to the project was to install new access gates to the woodland, improve the drainage at the Heol Brown site and to re-surface the car park as well as cutting and clearing many of the unsafe trees within the woodland area. The car park and drainage work was undertaken by Elgan Rees Plant on behalf of ourselves.

The Tycroes Growing Together Project was funded by Heritage Lottery

Community Walking Project

We had the pleasure of working with Art Matters based in Abergavenny to install these wonderful community walking trail maps, providing information to local people regarding routes and items of interest to look at along the walks.

Community Sculptures

We had the pleasure of installing these wonderfully carved totem poles representing the communities they are located within.
